What we like about Fidelity:

Cutting Edge Investment and Banking Products:

Fidelity gives investors access to a wide range of financial products and services, including one of the most extensive selections of mutual funds from Fidelity and other investment companies.  Fidelity mutual funds can be purchased with no fee through the site; purchased elsewhere you will have to pay an additional fee.  Fidelity is also the clear winner in the online Global Trading Market allowing investors to trade stocks online in 12 foreign countries, unlike other brokerage firms that require traders to do it over the phone with a Broker.  Fidelity will also let traders keep the stock sales in the local currency, so that they forgo having to pay an exchange rate during the process.

One on One Guidance:

Whether you are looking to build a portfolio or plan your retirement Fidelity has you covered.  Fidelity offers a free analysis of your portfolio, investment strategy, and income.  They also offer portfolio management by a team of experienced professionals.  This service through Fidelity is great for the less independent investor or someone that just doesn’t have the time to research investments and manage their money on a daily basis.

Investment minimums for Fidelity Portfolio Advisory Service® start at $50,000 and allow Fidelity customers access to a team of professionals who will help to create and manage a mix of investment options including stock  and bond mutual funds based on an investment strategy that is tailored to match your timeline and level of risk preference.  Accounts with assets of over $250,000 will be assigned an Account Executive as a primary contact and a dedicated Portfolio Specialist.  Fidelity Portfolio Advisory Service® can be used for both retirement and non retirement accounts. There is a net annual advisory fee of between .25%–1.7% of your eligible assets invested for this service.

Excellent Educational Resources:

Fidelity’s Education Center provides member access to variety of courses at both the beginner and intermediate level.  Fidelity also makes sure that customers have a clear understanding of the investment process by hosting several local seminars which are free for Fidelity clients.  These live seminars cover topics such as retirement planning, ETFs, international trading, tax know how, etc. and are held pretty frequently (2-3 times a month or more) depending on which state you reside in.  Rather not attend a seminar, prefer to read instead?  Fidelity hosts one of the largest selections of industry publications from a variety of respected third party sources.

In Short:

Fidelity, though not our favorite in design, hosts a wealth of educational and research options.  Fidelity offers a team of professionals to help you choose investments that are right for you and manage your account.  Although many online brokerage firms now offer banking as a side feature to investors, Fidelity offer one of the better banking products on the market.  We would recommend Fidelity for individuals that would like more investment help from a professional source and for those who do not necessarily want to go it alone.  The ability to purchase Fidelity mutual funds through their site with no fees is another plus.
